Scope
Muslims in India number approximately 200 million, representing roughly 15% of the population, but their share in social, economic and political opportunity is disproportionately low–estimated to be near 3-5%. This has been a cause of serious concern for a long time. Though concerted efforts have been made in the past to bring about positive change, the situation remains unchanged. There are also new challenges emerging related to the image and perception of Muslims. The political agenda and issues of biases, excesses and unfairness by authorities are also reported in the media from time to time. This necessitates the need for proactive engagement with all stakeholders to create better understanding and a more socially congenial environment on one hand and policy advocacy and outreach to Government, social and political institutions.
